nickel nitride formula is represented by the molecule Ni(NO3)2. It is a green crystalline solid with nitrate ions. It is soluble in water. It is a strong oxidising agent and is highly toxic to aquatic organisms. It reacts violently with reducing agents such as ethanol, iodine and hydrogen sulphide. It is a dangerous fire hazard and will speed the burning of combustible materials. It is flammable and when it burns, it emits toxic oxides of nitrogen. It is a carcinogen and can cause respiratory irritation when inhaled. It can also cause skin sensitization and allergic reactions if it comes into contact with the skin. It is corrosive to metals and irritates the eyes. It can be fatal if swallowed.

It can be used in nickel plating and in the manufacture of nickel catalysts. It can also be deposited on glass surfaces to produce a hard coating for electrical contacts. It can also be used as a semiconductor.

Ni(NO3)3 has a cauliflower-like nanostructure with a tetrahedral crystal structure. It is also a good conductor. It can be fabricated by DC/RF reactive sputtering on an indium-doped tin oxide or fluorine-doped tin oxide (ITO or FTO) conducting glass substrate. It is also a popular nitrides precursor in the synthesis of metal nitrides.

Exposure to nickel nitrate can lead to a range of health issues including kidney and liver damage. The compound can reduce DNA synthesis and protein synthesis in Chinese hamster ovary cells. It can also cause gastrointestinal distress in humans.
