ZrC has 6.73 g/cm3 less density than similar carbides like TaC (14.5 grams/cm3), WC (15.8 grams/cm3) and WC (15.8 grams/cm3). ZrC might be suitable for supersonic and rocket/hyperjet aircraft, which require low density and high temperature load-bearing capability.
Zirconium carbide, just like other refractory metal carbides, has substoichiometric carbon. Free carbon occurs when the carbon content is greater than ZrC0.98. From 0.65 to 0.98, ZrC to metal ratio is stable.

Zirconium carbide can be made many ways. One is by using graphite or zirconia in the carbothermal reactions. You get powder. By sintering ZrC in powder form at temperatures higher than 2000°C, the ZrC will become dense. For fully dense ZrC also, you can use spark plasma.
Also, solution-based production can make zirconium nitrate. This can be achieved by refluxing the metaloxide and acetylacetone.
Another method for manufacturing is chemical vapor deposit. The halide can then be decomposed by heating the Zirconium sponge.
