How is Aluminium oxide made?

Aluminum oxide is created by the bauxite calcination process. Bayer’s process involves four steps. First, the Bauxite is broken down, washed and dried. Then, at high temperatures, it’s dissolved with caustic sodium. The mixture is then passed through a filter to remove any “red mud” or impurities and can be discarded as needed. The remaining alumina solution goes to a tall tank called a settler. When the hot solution starts to cool in the sedimentation vessel, tiny aluminium hydroxide particles (very small) are added. The aluminum hydroxide seed stimulates the formation solid alium hydroxide crystals. At the bottom, aluminium hydroxide forms and must be removed.
